Fast market growth can easily dominate a strategy discussion.

But growth rates answer only one question: is demand expanding?

The more useful strategic question is often:

What is changing in the mechanism of winning?

If procurement barriers, physician preferences, channel economics, service requirements and competitive positions remain broadly unchanged, a growing market may lift multiple participants without materially changing who captures disproportionate value.

The more interesting signal is when market growth is accompanied by a structural change in advantage — for example, a new buying pathway, technology shift, reimbursement model, channel structure, localisation requirement or customer behaviour.

That is when growth can alter not just the size of the opportunity, but who can win and why.

My take: Market growth tells us where demand may be expanding. Strategy still has to establish whether the company’s route to advantage is becoming stronger.
